Joseph graduated with an MBA from the United Kingdom and a bachelor’s degree from New Zealand, and has been involved in the business of tertiary education since the 1990’s. Prior to entering the education industry, he was a journalist at Malaysia’s largest Chinese daily newspaper for 3 years.
Joseph’s extensive marketing & communications experience in tertiary education started when he was engaged by private colleges in Singapore. Later, his expertise was further broadened when he returned to Malaysia, and was appointed to marketing and communications roles in an Australian branch university, and subsequently a British branch university in Kuala Lumpur.
In Jan 2006, Joseph founded GEN Education in Kuala Lumpur, which would eventually become the holding company of G-UCAS in East Asia, with numerous operations based in Malaysia. Apart from the recruitment of students for tertiary education, GEN Education also serves as the regional partner for several professional courses originating from the UK.
Joseph has attended numerous educational forums, training and induction sessions in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Apart from being actively involved in marketing efforts for Malaysia, he also travels extensively for educational events and consultancy activities throughout the East Asia region.
In 2010, Joseph was conferred the title of Professional Member of the Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality – PMCTH, for his contributions in promoting British education and CTH professional courses within East Asia. He was also conferred the Royal Awards of ‘DIMP’ and ‘AMP’ in August 2013 and March 2012 respectively by the Ruler (Sultan) in Malaysia. The Awards served as recognition of his efforts in advocating quality education to thousands of school leavers, and the promotional efforts for Malaysia with regards to tertiary education worldwide.
In 2013, Joseph triumphed over 220 competitors from around East Asia, and won the Most Entrepreneurial Award in British Council’s East Asia Education Agents Award 2013. The Award was presented to Joseph on 25 March 2013 in Guangzhou, China.
With his accumulated work experience in education, marketing, advertising, and journalism, Joseph is keen to share his expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm. He manages his education consultancy based on his strong belief in the lifelong-learning philosophy, and no-compromise approach to quality achievement.
As the Founder of GEN and G-UCAS, Joseph has a vast network of close working relationships with numerous prominent colleges and universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia. His interest lies in the management of higher learning institutions, particularly on the management of growth strategies. He places a high value on the standard of education as a whole, and aims to improve it by focusing on the quality of lecturers, the delivery of programmes, and the welfare of students.
